    Allersheim - Stiftungsgut

    • The farmstead of the foundation is located in Allersheim, district Holzminden. The arable farmland borders on the River Weser in the west, on the mountain range Solling in the east.
The use of arable farmland includes the cultivation of sugar beet, winter rape, winter wheat, winter barley and maize. An agronomic feature is the comparatively extensive seed multiplication.
Previously, the estate was a courtyard of the monastery Amelungsborn. In 1549 the estate was removed from the monastery and sold to Duke Ernst-August. Since then, the estate has been leased as a princely manor farm and introduced in 1934 with other state-owned properties into the Braunschweig Foundation.
All building components, which were created up to the 19th century, are under monument protection.

    Bad Pyrmont - Hauptallee

    • Bad Pyrmont is a spa town in the Weser Uplands and belongs to the district of Hameln-Pyrmont in Lower Saxony. Seven medicinal mineral springs with different compositions of water bubble out of the ground and are used for baths and drinking cures.
The main avenue was built by Prince George Frederick of Waldeck-Pyrmont in 1668 as a four-row lime avenue. The lime avenue was used as a walk during the drinking cure. The Fountain Square with the Hylligen Born is the center of the city and also the landmark of Bad Pyrmont. In 2000, a watercourse was new created at the bottom of the main avenue. The run of the water is interrupted by the 'Square of the Four Seasons', where in the four corners music of pylons sounds.

    • The vapours cave in Bad Pyrmont is the brick grotto of a gas fountain. The fountain releases considerable amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2).
By 1700 workers in the former quarry fainted. The powerlessness was caused by the gas flowing out of the rock.
Because of expected healing effects Dr. Philipp Seip built in 1720 a grotto for spa guests. Since the gas has a greater specific weight than the normal air, forms above the bottom of the grotto up to 2.40 m high layer of carbon dioxide. Seip's spa guests even included the King of Prussia and the Russian Tsar Peter the Great!
Today, carbon dioxide source gas therapy is used for the following indications: disorders of the peripheral circulation, hypertension and coronary insufficiency, allergic diseases (asthma, eczema).
On the occasion of climate change caused by CO2, this fountain should be sealed as soon as possible.

    Bad Salzuflen

    • Bad Salzuflen is a town and a thermal spa in the North Rhine-Westphalian district Lippe in Germany. Characteristic of Bad Salzuflen are the saliniferous springs. The use of the saliniferous Paulinenquelle led in the Middle Ages to the establishment of the first salt workshops. These salt workshops were located in a place that is still called "Salzhof" and whose fountain is shown in the coat of arms of the city. A remnant of the salt production are the graduation towers with a total length of 300 m. The graduation towers are now operated only for spa purposes. The brine, which trickles down over blackthorn bundles, enriches the air near the graduation tower with salt, and the water droplets bind particles in the air. Inhaling salty air humidifies the airways and positively affects the walls of the respiratory organs.
At the time, the city of Bad Salzuflen is car-free and worth living. Unfortunately, the car-freedom is only a temporary attempt. The businessmen in the city had protested vehemently against the car-freedom. We will see what happens next.

The Prince-Bishop of Paderborn Hermann Werner von Wolff-Metternich zur Gracht had the complex built from 1694 to 1700. The three-wing building with an almost square courtyard is bordered by a walled moat. The courtyard opens to the south, a stone bridge leads over the ditch. The farm buildings are opposite.

    • The Bückeberg is a mountain range up to 373 m high in the north of the Weser Uplands. It lies between the mountain ranges of Harrl in the west and the Deister in the east. For cyclists and hikers, the Bückeberg, with its well-signposted system of paths, is a real relaxation paradise.
In 2007 and 2008 dinosaur tracks were discovered in a sandstone quarry on the Bückeberg. There are around 2700 footprints of different dinosaur species on the Bückeberg. The footprints are about 140 million years old. The tracks show that the animals made their way in family groups, which proves the social behavior of dinosaurs. The fact that the tracks were so well preserved is due to rapid overlaying of the fresh imprints by storm sands.

    • The Egge is a low mountain range at the southern end of the Teutoburg Forest. Together with the southeast part of the Teutoburg Forest, the Egge mountains form the elongated 2711 km² nature park "Teutoburger Wald / Eggegebirge".
The Egge is the watershed between the river Rhine and the river Weser. The springs on the western slopes of the Egge form tributaries to the Rhine. The springs on the eastern slopes, such as the Emmer, flow into the Weser.
For the construction of the railway the Egge was tunnelled. The excavation through the 427 m high mountain Rehberg began in 1861. Because of the many springs of the Rehberg, there were some water ingress during the tunnel excavation. In 1864 the first steam locomotive drove through the Rehberg.
With the Rehberg tunnel and the railway viaduct over the valley Beketal, completed in 1851, Altenbeken became an important railway junction.

    Externsteine

    • Externsteine are a rock stone group located in the district of Lippe, North-Rhine-Westphalia/Germany. The rocks came into existence by sandstone of marine deposit. Before 100 to 135 million years a chalk-temporal shallow sea was here. Still today in the surroundings one finds fossil cancers, shells and even water lilies. By earth plate movement the originally lying sandstone-rocks were pressed vertically high.
Already for our forefathers during the Stone Age the about 70 to 100 million year old natural monument was of importance. Findings like tanged points, flint artefacts, blades and stone-chipping places from the Paleolithic age prove that here about 10,000 years before Christ already people stayed. It is assumed that the rock stone group already early-Germanic was used as a place of pagan worship.
Still today Externsteine work as a big visitor's magnet.
...and numerous cycle tracks and longer routes like the Romans-Lippe-Route or the Teuto-Senne Bike Trail offer cyclists many suggestions for excursions and sightseeing.

    Hameln - Altstadt

    • Hamelin is a town on the river Weser in Lower Saxony, Germany.
The town is famous for the folk tale of the Pied Piper of Hamelin, a medieval story that tells of the rat-catcher and of the tragedy that befell the town in the thirteenth century: Hamelin lost all children of the town. The version written by the Brothers Grimm made it popular throughout the world. Although Hamelin has a fine medieval town with some remarkable buildings, the main tourist attraction is the tale of the Pied Piper. In summer Sundays, the tale is performed by actors in the town centre.

    • Kleinenbremen is a place in the northern Weser Uplands. The village is bordered to the east by the town of Rinteln. The first documentary mention dates back to 1181. Officially since 1835, iron ore has been mined in Kleinenbremen. In the first years, ore mining took place only in opencast mining (red cliff) . From 1881, iron ore was then mined underground (Wohlverwahrt mine). In the meantime, the mine is unprofitable and iron ore production has ceased. However, the mine is still open to visitors and allows access to the interior of the mountain.

    • After the swampy forest north-east of Lemgo was totally devastated by a hurricane in the 1970s, 4 forest ponds were created there and the area was designed as a forested recreation area. The network of trails around the forester ponds covers around 60 kilometers.

    Lemgo - Junkerhaus

    • Junkerhaus is the two-storey half-timbered house built by Karl Junker, which since its completion in 1891 has been one of the attractions of the city of Lemgo. Karl Junker worked steadily on the further development and lived in the house until his death in 1912. Over the years, the artist, who was considered to be idiosyncratic, designed the building with imaginative carvings and also created the ornamental and interior furnishings inside. There are flowing transitions between the furniture, fixtures and wall designs.
Since 1962, the city of Lemgo maintains the building as a museum. The building is difficult to classify art-historically. Some artists consider Junker an insane nerd and call the Junkerhaus a quirky kitsch.

    • Lügde is a small town in Lippe, North Rhine-Westphalia. It is in the Weser Uplands and belongs to the nature reserve Teutoburger Forrest / Egge Highlands. In the year 784, Lügde was mentioned for the first time in a document. Lügde officially carries the title "Town of the Easter-wheels".
The cultural event Easter-wheels-run is a more than thousand years old tradition and has pagan origin. The Easter fire should expel the bad evil spirits. The burning wheels symbolize the sun which in springtime defeats the darkness of the winter.
The Easter-wheels-run takes place always in the evening of the first Easter day. Six oak wheels, 1.70 m diameter and 300 kg heavy, are packed each with 120 kg of rye straw. On the hill Osterberg, the straw is lit and then the wheels are pushed downhill. The big, heavy wheels roll the slop down, burning with large flames.

    • Marienmünster is one of the most important monastery locations in North Rhine-Westphalia. The monastery complex of the former Benedictine monastery in the Höxter district has been almost completely preserved. The church and monastery building were built in Romanesque style in 1128. Widekind I. Earl of Schwalenberg furnished the monastery with goods to support the monks. In 1803 the church and the monastery became the property of the Kingdom of Prussia. 39 monks had to leave the monastery. The inventory, which included valuable works of art, and the library were auctioned off. After the dissolution of the monastery, however, the parish remained. Because of this, two monks were allowed to stay and continue their work.

    • By the Minden Aqueduct, on the northern edge of the Weser Uplands, the Mittelland Canal is led over the navigable Weser river. Since 1915, the Mittelland Canal crosses the Weser valley in a 370 m long concrete trough bridge 13 m high above the Weser river. Over the years, ships became larger and so the canal grew too small. Thus in 1998 a new steel bridge was opened, which runs parralel to the old bridge.
So that the ship journey can change between river and canal, the 13 m of height difference are overcome by sluices.

    Oesterholz - Jagdschloss

The hunting lodge Oesterholz was built in 1597-1599 as a moated castle of the House of Lippe in Oesterholz in the district of Lippe. Due to damage caused by the Thirty Years' War, the castle was renovated and rebuilt by 1665. Due to decay in the 18th century, the main building of the hunting lodge was demolished. The removed building materials were used to build the health resort (http://Manfred-Tinebor.fotki.com/rumkullern/2022/p0222841s.html) in Bad Meinberg.
Since 1929 the remaining buildings of the hunting lodge have been used as a retirement home.

    Pivitker Wasserweg - Eiserne Quelle

    • The Pivitker Wasserweg in the Teutoburg Forest runs for long way along the brook Hasselbach and connects the three reservoirs Donoper Teich, Hasselbachstausee and the Krebsteich and also passes the lake Blauer See.
The last surviving high moor in the Teutoburg Forest is Hiddeser Bent. The formation of the high moor began as early as 7000 BC. Chr. Slope rain and cold air create a cool, humid climate that enables peat moss to settle there.
Another attraction is the spring Eisenquelle. Already at the beginning of the 17th century, the iron-containing spring was in the form of a stone vase, which has a rusty color due to the high iron content in the water. The source quickly developed into a health well, which has been forgotten over time.

    • Porta Westfalica (Latin for Westphalian Gate) is a mountain gate of the Weser Uplands and the Wiehen Mountains through which the Weser merges into the North German Plain.

    • Rinteln is a small town in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is located on the banks of the river Weser in the Weser Uplands, just 20 kilometers from Hamelin. The old town is picturesque affected by numerous half-timbered houses. In the middle ages Rinteln was surrounded by a town wall. In the modern ages the town wall was expanded and Rinteln became a fortress. From 1621 until 1810, Rinteln was the seat of Ernestina University.

    • Möllenbeck Monastery was founded in 896 in the floodplains of the Weser Uplands in Lower Saxony near Rinteln. The two Ottonian round towers, visible from afar, date from the early 10th century. The other parts of the building date, through reconstruction, from the period between 1479 and 1505. The monastery property was converted into a state domain in 1649, the income from which then provided for the maintenance of the University of Rinteln. In 1807 the collegiate church was handed over to the Protestant Reformed parish of Möllenbeck. Today the monastery houses the parish hall, winter church and a youth leisure center. The monastery complex is also used for annually recurring events such as youth rock concerts, the sunflower festival and the Irish Folk Festival.

    Rinteln - Kahlenberg

    • To the south of Möllenbeck Monastery, in the Kahlenberg forest, which earlier belonged to the monastery, grit and fine sand is extracted. The forest is cut down, the landscape is being destroyed and from the mountain (Kahlenberg) a hole ("Kahlenloch") is created .

    • Schiedersee is a lake located near the town of Schieder-Schwalenberg in the Weser Uplands in the district of Lippe / North Rhine-Westphalia. The lake is about 3.1 km long and up to 350 m wide. The lake was created in the late 1970s as a reservoir for the river Emmer (Emmerstausee). In addition to flood protection, tourist incentives were also created in the 1980s.
Because of the constant influx of sediment from the Emmer, the lake silted up continuously. The lake had to be dredged regularly. To prevent river sediments from getting into the lake, a flow round moat was built between 2012 and 2015. The Emmer is now diverted past the Schiedersee by a separating dam. As a result, the Schiedersee is now only three quarters of its original size and its original function as a reservoir has been completely lost. To compensate for the evaporation and seepage losses in the Schiedersee, part of the water from the small river Niese is fed into the lake. The water of the Niese is channeled through three reed basins so that suspended matter can settle before it reaches the Schiedersee.

Jahrhunderts verlassen.

    • The Falkenburg ruin in the Teutoburg Forest is a castle ruin in the Lippe district of North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany). The former hilltop castle was built from around 1190 and has been abandoned since the first half of the 16th century. To this day, the ruin is owned by a direct descendant of the builder (Stephan Prinz zur Lippe)
The Geisterschlucht (ghost gorge) is a former quarry, the access way to which is quite hidden. Presumably the Falkenburg was built with stones from the Geisterschlucht. The way down into the gorge is not manageable by bike. The path is rocky and blocked with fallen trees.
