Die Weserrenaissance ist ein spezieller Architekturstil, der in der Umgebung der Weser zu finden ist. Der Stil wurde zwischen dem 15. und 17. Jahrhundert entwickelt und ist durch Schlösser und alte Städte der Region gut erhalten geblieben.

Weser Renaissance is a form of architectural style that is found in the area around the river Weser in central Germany. The style was developed between 15th and 17th century and has been well-preserved in castles and old cities of the region.

Schloss Bad Pyrmont

• 1526 wurde das Gebäude im Auftrag der Grafen von Spiegelberg als Festung begonnen und 1562 als Schloss im Stil der Weserrenaissance fertiggestellt. Heute wird das Schloss als Museum und für Ausstellungsveranstaltungen genutzt.

• In 1526 the building was begun by order of the counts of Spiegelberg as a fortress and 1562 was finished as a castle in the style of the Weser Renaissance. Today the castle is used as a museum and for exhibit events.

    Schloss Barntrup

    • Das Anwesen in Barntrup war das erste Schloss, dass mit den Stilelementen der Weserrenaissance erbaut wurde. Bauherrin war Anna von Canstein. Sie heiratete 1567 den Söldnerführer Franz von Kerßenbrock. Das Anwesen ist deshalb auch als Kerßenbrocksches Schloss bekannt.

    • The property in Barntrup was the first castle that was built with the elements of the Weser Renaissance style. Building owner was Anna von Canstein. She married in 1567 a mercenary leader Franz von Kerssenbrock. The property is therefore also known as Kerssenbrock's castle

    Schloss Bevern

    • Das Schloss Bevern wurde durch Statius von Münchhausen von 1603 bis 1612 als Wasserschloss mit vier Flügeln und einem Schlossgarten errichtet. Heute wird das Schloss als Restaurant und für Ausstellungen genutzt.

    • The castle Bevern was established by Statius of Münchhausen from 1603 to 1612 as a moated castle with four wings and a castle garden. Today the castle is used as a restaurant and for exhibits.

    Schloss Brake

    • In Lemgo, Nordrhein-Westfalen, wurde 1190 eine steinerne Burg errichtet, die 1306 erstmals als "castrum brac" schriftlich erwähnt wurde. Graf Simon VI. zur Lippe baute 1587 die Burg zum Wasserschloß im Stil der Weserrenaissance um. Seit 1986 befindet sich im Schloss Brake das Weserrenaissance-Museum.

    • In Lemgo, North Rhine-Westphalia, 1190 a stone castle was established. The castle was mentioned 1306 for the first time in writing as 'castrum brac'. In 1587 Count Simon VI. zur Lippe converted the moated castle into the style of the Weser Renaissance. Since 1986 the Weser Renaissance museum is located in castle Brake.

    Schloss Bückeburg

    • Die Bückeburg wurde 1304 als Wasserburg gegründet. Ab 1560 ließ Otto IV. von Schaumburg die Burg als repräsentatives Renaissance-Schloss umbauen. 1732 brannten einige Teile des Schlosses ab. Die abgebrannten Gebäudeteile wurden im Barock-Stil erneuert.

    • Bueckeburg was founded 1304 as a moated castle. From 1560 Otto IV of Schaumburg let the castle renewed as a representative Renaissance chateau. In 1732 some parts of the castle burned down. The burnt down parts were renewed in the Baroque style.

    Herminen-Palais Bückeburg

    • Das Herminen-Palais diente ursprünglich als Witwensitz für Prinzessin Hermine zu Waldeck-Pyrmont. Das Bauwerk wurde 1893–1896 in Bückeburg aus Sandstein im Stil der Neorenaissance erschaffen. Heute ist das Palais der Sitz einer berufsbildenden Schule.

    • The Herminen-Palais originally served as a widow's residence for Princess Hermine zu Waldeck-Pyrmont. The building was created in Bückeburg from sandstone in the neo-renaissance style from 1893 to 1896. Today the palace is the seat of a vocational school.

    Fürstliches Residenzschloss Detmold

    • Im 8. u. 9. Jahrhundert entstandene Gebäudeteile des Paderborner Bischofs wurden im 12. Jahrhundert von den Edelherren 'Zur Lippe' zum Wasserschloss ausgebaut. Im 16. Jahrhundert erfolgte der Umbau in den Renaissance-Stil.

    • Building parts of the Paderborn's bishop which were created in the 8th and 9th century were developed in the 12th century by noble men 'Zur Lippe' to the moated castle. In the 16th century it was renewed in the Renaissance style.

    Schloss Gesmold

    • Schloss Gesmold ist ein zweiflügeliges Wasserschloss im Stil der Renaissance. Es befindet sich in Gesmold in Niedersachsen und ist gut über den Else-Werre-Radweg erreichbar.
    Im Jahr 1160 erteilte der Osnabrücker Bischof die Erlaubnis zum Bau einer Burg. Das heutige Schloss bestand anfangs nur aus einem Wohn- und Fliehturm, der im 13. Jahrhundert gebaut wurde. In den Jahren 1544 bis 1559 wurde das Schloss in den Renaissance-Stil ausgebaut. Die Schlossanlage hatte zwei Vorburgen und war von drei Befestigungsgräben umgeben. Über diese führte jeweils eine Zugbrücke zum Hauptgebäude. In der Barockzeit wurden ein französischer Garten mit Freitreppe, eine Orangerie und ein Wildgehege angelegt.

    • Castle Gesmold is a two-winged moated castle in the Renaissance style. It is located in Gesmold in Lower Saxony and is easily accessible via the Else-Werre cycle path.
    In 1160, the Osnabrück bishop granted permission to build a castle. The present castle consisted, at first, only of a residential and flight tower built in the 13th century. In the years 1544 to 1559 the castle was developed into the Renaissance style. The castle had two forts and was surrounded by three moats. Over these each led one drawbridge. In the Baroque period, a French garden with an open staircase, an orangery and a deer park were created.

    Rittergut Schloss Hämelschenburg

    • Schloss Hämelschenburg wurde im 15. Jahrhundert von der Ritterfamilie Klencke erbaut. Es ist eines der schönsten Anlagen der Weserrenaissance.

    Schloss Hasperde

    • Hasperde ist ein kleines Dorf im Weserbergland mit etwa 300 Einwohnern.
    Das Schloss wurde 1675 durch die Adelsfamilie Hake erbaut. Heute wird das Schloss als Senioren-Residenz genutzt. Es ist in einem exzellenten Zustand.

    • Hasperde is a small village of Weserbergland with about 300 inhabitants. The castle was built in 1675 by the aristocratic family Hake. Today the castle is used as a residence for senior citizens. It is in excellent condition.

    Wasserschloss Hehlen

    • Das Wasserschloss Hehlen im Landkreis Holzminden liegt direkt am Weserradweg. Es gilt als eines der frühesten Schlösser im Stil der Weserrenaissance. Das Schloss wurde 1584 als dreistöckiger Bau aus Kalkbruchstein fertiggestellt. Die quadratische Vierflügelanlage mit geschlossenem Innenhof hatte ursprünglich eine verputzte Fassade. Heute zeigen sich die Außenflächen als unverputztes Bruchsteinmauerwerk. Das Schloss hat vier Türme. An der Schlossaußenseite stehen in der Südost- und Nordwestecke zwei Rundtürme mit welscher Dachhaube. Innen im Schlosshof stehen an denselben Ecken zwei polygonale Treppentürme. Das Schloss ist von einem Wassergraben umgeben. Den Zugang zum Schlossinnenhof ermöglicht eine Brücke über den Wassergraben im Südwesten. Schloss Hehlen befindet sich in Privatbesitz.

    • The moated castle Hehlen in the district Holzminden is located directly on the Weser cycle path. It is considered to be one of the earliest castles in the Weser Renaissance style. The castle was completed in 1584 as a three-story building made of crushed limestone. The square four-wing complex with a closed inner courtyard originally had a plastered facade. Today, the outer surfaces appear as unplastered quarry stone masonry. The castle has four towers. On the outside of the castle there are two round towers with a Welsh roof hood in the south-east and north-west corners. Inside the castle courtyard there are two polygonal stair towers at the same corners. The castle is surrounded by a moat. A bridge over the moat in the south-west allows access to the inner courtyard of the palace. Hehlen castle is privately owned.

    Hexenbürgermeisterhaus

    • Das Bürgerhaus im Stil der Weserrenaissance wurde 1571 in Lemgo, Nordrhein-Westfalen, erbaut. Der dort lebende, damalige Bürgermeister und Jurist Hermann Cothamm war eifriger und unerbittlicher Hexenjäger. Somit erhielt das Gebäude schon damals seinen jetzigen Namen: Hexenbürgermeisterhaus.
    Die Hexenverfolgung fand in Lemgo bis 1681 statt. Im Stadtarchiv sind rund 200 Hexen-Prozessakten erhalten. Gemäß der Dokumente wurden in Lemgo etwa 250 Menschen, meistens Frauen, als Hexen getötet. Tatsächlich dürfte die Zahl aber erheblich höher sein. Unter der Folter wurde jeweils ein Geständnis erzwungen, dem die Verbrennung auf dem Scheiterhaufen folgte. Lemgo gehört zu den Städten, in denen die Hexenprozesse besonders intensiv geführt wurden.

    • The town house in architectural style of the Weser Renaissance was built 1571 in Lemgo, North Rhine-Westphalia. The mayor and lawyer Hermann Cothamm, living former there, was a keen and relentless witch-hunter. Already at that time the building received its current name: Hexenbürgermeisterhaus (Witches mayor house).
    The witch-hunt in Lemgo took place till 1681. In the town archive about 200 witch case documents are conserved. According to the documents about 250 people, mostly women, were killed as witches. However, really the number might be much higher. Under torture, in each case, a confession was forced. Then the burning at the stake followed. Lemgo belongs to the towns in which the witch processes were conducted especially intensely.

    Haus Merlsheim

    • Haus Merlsheim ist ein zweiflügeliges, zweigeschossiges Wasserschloss im Kreis Höxter (Nordrhein-Westfalen).
    Im Jahr 1292 fand die Ritterburg Merlsheim erstmals urkundliche Erwähnung. Ab 1507 gehörte die ritterliche Wasserburg zum Hochstift Paderborn. Der Domherr von Kettler ließ die Wehranlage 1667-1668 zum jetzigen Haus Merlsheim umbauen.

    The knight's castle Merlsheim was first mentioned in a document in 1292. From 1507 the knightly moated castle belonged to the Paderborn bishopric. The canon von Kettler had the weir system converted into the current House of Merlsheim in 1667-1668.

    Neue Regierung Minden

    • Die Neue Regierung ist ein Gebäude in der ostwestfälischen Stadt Minden. Es wurde 1902–1906 im Stil der Neorenaissance (Weserrenaissance) für die Bezirksregierung Minden gebaut. Da die Außenstelle Minden der heutigen Bezirksregierung Detmold einen neuen Sitz hat, wird nun auch häufig die „Neue Regierung“ als „Alte Regierung“ bezeichnet.

    • The New Government (Neue Regierung) is a building in the East Westphalian town of Minden. It was built in 1902-1906 in Neo-Renaissance (Weser Renaissance) style for the Minden district government. Since the Minden branch of today's Detmold district government has a new seat, the "New Government" is now often referred to as the "Old Government".

    Wasserschloss Schelenburg

    • Das Wasserschloss Schelenburg, nahe der Ortschaft Schledehausen in Niedersachsen, stammt aus dem 11. Jahrhundert. Sein ältester Teil ist der gotische Wohnturm. Er hat eine Mauerstärke von 2,5 Metern und steht auf Eichenpfählen. Im Mittelalter war er rundum von Wasser umgeben und konnte nur über eine Leiter zum ersten Stockwerk erreicht werden. Das ehemals mehrfach gestaffelte Grabensystem um die Burganlage ist heute nur noch teilweise erhalten.
    1490 zerstörte ein Brand Wohn- und Wirtschaftsgebäude, der massive Wohnturm blieb verschont. Von ca.1500 bis 1532 wurde auf den Grundmauern des abgebrannten Wohnhauses ein Bruchsandsteingebäude im Stil der Weserrenaissance errichtet.
    Die Burg ist in Privatbesitz. Sie wurde gründlich saniert und erhielt ein neues Dach.

    • The moated castle Schelenburg near the village Schledehausen in Lower Saxony dates back to the 11th century. Its oldest part is the Gothic tower. It has a wall thickness of 2.5 meters and stands on oak piles. In the middle ages it was surrounded by water and could only be reached via a ladder to the first floor. The formerly multi-tiered moat system arround the castle is today only partially preserved. In 1490, a fire destroyed the redidential and economy buildings, the massive residential tower remained spared. From about 1500 to 1532, on the foundations of the burned house, a bricksand stone building was built in the style of the Weser Renaissance.
    The castle is in private ownership. It was thoroughly renovated and received a new roof.

    Schloss Thienhausen

    • Schloss Thienhausen wurde 1609 durch Tönnies Wolf von Haxthausen unter Einbezug einer älteren Bauanlage errichtet. Das Schloss ist ein zweiflügliges Wasserschloss im Stil der Weserrenaissance. Es steht in der Nähe von Steinheim, Nordrhein-Westfalen. Schloss Thienhausen ist in Privatbesitz und wird bewohnt.

    • Castle Thienhausen was established 1609 by Tönnies Wolf von Haxthausen with inclusion of an older construction arrangement. The castle is a double-winged water castle in style of the Weser Renaissance. It stands close to Steinheim, North Rhine-Westphalia. Castle Thienhausen is in private property and is inhabited.

    Wasserschloss Ulenburg

    • Nahe der Stadt Löhne im Nordosten Nordrhein-Westfalens befindet sich das Schloss Ulenburg. Das seit 1299 bestehende Rittergut Ulenhof wurde in den Jahren 1568 bis 1570 von Hilmar von Quernheim zum Wasserschloss im Stil der Weserrenaissance ausgebaut.
    2015 wurde das Schloss von jesidischen Akademikern gekauft. Es soll zukünftig als Kultur- und Ausbildungszentrum für die in Deutschland lebenden Jesiden genutzt werden.

    • Near the town Löhne in the north-east of North Rhine-Westphalia, the castle Ulenburg is located. The manor Ulenhof, existing since 1299, was developed in the years 1568 to 1570 by Hilmar of Quernheim to the moated castle in style of the Weser Renaissance.
    In 2015 the castle was bought from Yazidi academics. It should be used in future as a cultural centre and education center for the Yazidis living in Germany.

    Schloss Varenholz

    • Das Schloss Varenholz befindet sich südlich der Weser in der Ortschaft Varenholz der Gemeinde Kalletal.
    Erstmals im Jahr 1188 wurde dort eine Burg erwähnt. Zwischen 1591 und 1600 ließ Graf Simon VI. zu Lippe das Schloss im Stil der Weserrenaissance umbauen.
    Heute wird das Schloss als Privatschulinternat genutzt.

    For the first time in 1188 a castle was mentioned there. Between 1591 and 1600, Count Simon VI. To Lippe rebuilt the castle into the Weser Renaissance style.

    Schloss Wendlinghausen

    Schloss Wendlinghausen wurde von 1613-1615 von Hilmar von Münchhausen, dem gleichnamigen Sohn des Erbauers von Schloss Münchhausen in Schwöbber, im Stil der Weserrenaissance gebaut. Schloss Wendlinghausen befindet sich bis heute im Besitz von Nachfahren des Erbauers, nunmehr der Familie von Reden. Nach umfassenden Restaurierungsarbeiten in den Jahren 2001 und 2003 wird das Schloss heute für kulturelle Veranstaltungen und Hochzeiten genutzt. Alle 2 Jahre findet dort die Show der Kaltblutpferde "PferdeStark" statt.

    Castle Wendlinghausen became built from in 1613-1615 from Hilmar of Münchhausen, the eponymouis son of the builder of castle Münchhausen in Schwöbber, in the style of the Weser Renaissance. Castle Wendlinghausen is still owned by descendants of the builder, now the family of Reden. After extensive restoration work in 2001 and 2003, the castle is now used for cultural events and weddings. Every 2 years the show of heavy draft horses "PferdeStark" takes place there.

    Schloss Wewelsburg

    • Die Wewelsburg ist eine Höhenburg mit dreieckigem Grundriss in der Nähe von Paderborn / Nordrhein-Westfalen. Bereits im 11. Jahrhundert stand dort auf dem Hügel eine Burg . Im 16. Jahrhundert ließ der Paderborner Bischof das heutige Burgschloss im Stil der Weserrenaissance auf Grundlage der alten bestehenden Burg errichten. Von 1934 bis 1945 wurde das Burgschloss von der SS genutzt und teilweise umgestaltet. Der Putz der Aussenwände wurde abgeschlagen, damit die Burg ein trutzigeres Aussehen bekam.
    Heute wird die Wewelsburg als Museum und Jugendherberge genutzt.

    • Wewelsburg is a hill fort with a triangular layout in North Rhine-Westphalia near Paderborn. There on a hill was already a fort in the 11th century. In the 16th century, the Bishop of Paderborn let build the present castle in style of Weser Renaissance. From 1934 to 1945, the castle was occupied by the SS and partly redesigned. The outside plaster was beaten off, so that the castle got a formidable strengthened appearance.
    Today the castle is used as museum and youth hostel.
