Startort/location: Großenwieden, Weserbergland, Startzeit/date: 7:00 14.05.2011 Der Begriff Brevet bezeichnet im Amateur-Radsport eine organisierte Langstreckenveranstaltung, bei der von sogenannten Randonneuren eine vorgegebene, nicht ausgeschilderte Strecke (üblicherweise zwischen 200 km und 1400 km) mit passieren von Kontrollstellen innerhalb eines bestimmten Zeitraums geradelt wird. Bei einem Brevet legt jeder Fahrer seine Geschwindigkeit, Pausenzeiten und - bei langen Brevets - seine Schlafpausen selbst fest. Diese Fahrweise wird französisch "Allure Libre" genannt. Es sind alle Fahrräder zugelassen, auf denen sich der Radfahrer ausschließlich aus eigener Muskelkraft fortbewegt. Die meisten Teilnehmer verwenden eine Variante des Rennrads, welches oft über einen leichten Gepäckträger verfügt, der eine kleine Tasche mit Regenkleidung und etwas Proviant trägt. Dazu kommen Licht und je nach Jahreszeit Schutzbleche. Manfred benutzte ein für Langstrecken gut geeignetes Liegerad. LEL2013 - Northbound ride
London-Edinburgh-London (LEL) is a randonnée bicycle ride of approximately 1400km held in the UK on an out-and-back course between the capital cities of England (London) and Scotland (Edinburgh). LEL is the British equivalent of Paris-Brest-Paris and the flagship event of Audax UK. It is held every four years. The first LEL was in 1989, when there were 29 starters and 26 finishers, all British. In 2013 the number of starters was limited to 1000. Manfred got rider number P56. During LEL you could check Manfred's progress online. Schloss Hohenschwangau
Das Schloss Hohenschwangau liegt direkt gegenüber von Schloss Neuschwanstein in der Gemeinde Schwangau in Bayern. Erstmals wurde das Schloss im 12. Jahrhundert als Burg Schwanstein erwähnt. In den folgenden Jahrhunderten wechselten die Besitzer, die Burg verfiel, wurde neu aufgebaut und wieder zerstört. Im Jahr 1832 erwarb König Maximilian II. die Ruine und ließ sie im Stil der Neugotik bis 1837 in den heutigen Zustand umbauen. The castle Hohenschwangau lies directly towards the castle Neuschwanstein in municipality Schwangau in Bavaria, Germany. For the first time the castle was mentioned in the 12th century as a castle Schwanstein. During the following centuries the owners changed, the castle went to ruin, was anew built up and destroyed again. Der Chiemsee, auch „bayerisches Meer“ genannt, ist der größte See in Bayern und der drittgrößte See in Deutschland. Bekannt sind zwei seiner Inseln: Auf der Fraueninsel befindet sich ein Nonnenkloster, auf der Herreninsel steht das Schloss Herrenchiemsee von Ludwig II. Auf den Schiffen ist die Fahrradmitnahme gestattet. So ist die Querung des Sees und der Besuch der Inseln als interessanter Teil der Radlroute möglich. Lake Chiem, also called „Bavarian Sea“, is the biggest lake in Bavaria and the third-biggest lake in Germany. Known are two of its islands: On the women's island there is a monastery, on the man's island there stands the castle Herrenchiemsee of Ludwig II. On the ships the entrainment of bicycles is permitted. Der Bau wurde ab 1869 für den bayerischen König Ludwig II. als idealisierte Vorstellung einer Ritterburg aus der Zeit des Mittelalters errichtet. Neuschwanstein ist das berühmteste der Schlösser Ludwigs II. The castle Neuschwanstein stands above Hohenschwangau in southern Bavaria, Germany. The construction was established from 1869 for Bavarian King Ludwig II as an idealized image of a knight's castle from the time of the Middle Ages.
