- • Das Wasserschloss Schelenburg, nahe der Ortschaft Schledehausen in Niedersachsen, stammt aus dem 11. Jahrhundert. Sein ältester Teil ist der gotische Wohnturm. Er hat eine Mauerstärke von 2,5 Metern und steht auf Eichenpfählen. Im Mittelalter war er rundum von Wasser umgeben und konnte nur über eine Leiter zum ersten Stockwerk erreicht werden. Das ehemals mehrfach gestaffelte Grabensystem um die Burganlage ist heute nur noch teilweise erhalten.
1490 zerstörte ein Brand Wohn- und Wirtschaftsgebäude, der massive Wohnturm blieb verschont. Von ca.1500 bis 1532 wurde auf den Grundmauern des abgebrannten Wohnhauses ein Bruchsandsteingebäude im Stil der Weserrenaissance errichtet.
Die Burg ist in Privatbesitz. Sie wurde gründlich saniert und erhielt ein neues Dach.
• The moated castle Schelenburg near the village Schledehausen in Lower Saxony dates back to the 11th century. Its oldest part is the Gothic tower. It has a wall thickness of 2.5 meters and stands on oak piles. In the middle ages it was surrounded by water and could only be reached via a ladder to the first floor. The formerly multi-tiered moat system arround the castle is today only partially preserved. In 1490, a fire destroyed the redidential and economy buildings, the massive residential tower remained spared. From about 1500 to 1532, on the foundations of the burned house, a bricksand stone building was built in the style of the Weser Renaissance.
