Anfang des 13. Jahrhunderts gründete Graf Volkwin III. von Schwalenberg die Stadt und die Burg Schwalenberg westlich der oberen Weser. At the beginning of 13-th century count Volkwin III von Schwalenberg founded the town and the castle Schwalenberg to the west of the upper Weser.
