Kratzdistel

Im Lied "The Thistle o' Scotland" wird die Distel als Metapher für den Stolz und die Standhaftigkeit der Schotten verwendet:
"It’s the flowret the proud eagle greets in his flight,
as he covers the sun with the wings of his might.
It’s the flowret that laughs at the storm as it blows,
for the stronger the tempest, the greener it grows!"

Pride and resistance is a beautiful
concept. This flower certainly does not possess beauty. We know, that  if anybody would look at the ugliness, there may  seen  beauty, by romantic  eye.

Yes, dear Marbess!  ...by romantic eyes ;-)
The sense of beauty is the result of subjective assessment. Surely the assessment factors are depending on tradition, culture, climate region, ... .
Generally evolutionary advantageous qualities are sensed as beauty.
