La Alcazaba

Alcazaba von Almeria wurde als maurischer Palast von Kalif “Abd ar-Raham III.” im 10. Jahrhundert errichtet. Er diente als Festung und Verteidigungspunkt.
Im 15. Jahrhundert wurde Alcazaba von christlichen Königen erobert. Im Jahre 1522 wurde das prunkvolle Gebäude durch ein Erdbeben zerstört. Der Wiederaufbau und die Erneuerung verschiedener Gebäudeteile mischte die einstige muslimische Architektur mit den neuen christlichen Einflüssen.

Alcazaba of Almeria was established as a Moorish palace by caliph "Abd ar-Raham III." in the 10th century. It served as a fortress and as defensive point.
In the 15th century Alcazaba was conquered by Christian kings. In 1522 the magnificent building was destroyed by an earthquake. The reconstruction and the renewal of different parts of the building mixed the former Muslim architecture with the new Christian influence.

    Fantastic! It is difficult to understand the purpose of of these amazing holes. There were mixed  different cultures and epochs!

      Yes, I agree, dear Olga!
      ...but it can be, that these holes have a simple practical function: cat gates! - So cats can come and go.
      Please note: the name of the area is Capo de Gata!  (gata = cat)
