The company was founded 1902 in Switzerland. The manufacture's motto was "festina lente" (Latin for 'Hasten slowly').
Festina is the official timekeeper of a lot of bicycle racings:

- Tour de Suisse
- Tour de Romandie
Festina is also known for its sponsorship of the professional Festina cycling team from 1989 to 2001.
