TR2012 - Planning
TransRussia - there is still an increase of madness possible! :o)
For the year 2012 Manfred's cycling friend, the extreme-sportsman Alexey Boldarev, offered a new immense challenge:
A bicycle race over a distance of 3,000 kms!
The racing led across all climate zones of the northern half of the earth.
Manfred took part in this long-distance racing. It should be a hard test of the physical limits ...and should be adventure pure! :-)

LEL2009 - The ride

London-Edinburgh-London (LEL) is a randonnée bicycle ride of approximately 1400km held in the UK on an out-and-back course between the capital cities of England (London) and Scotland (Edinburgh). The time limit is specified to 116:40 hours inclusive all breaks. LEL is believed to be the longest regularly scheduled grand randonnée to be sanctioned by the Randonneurs Mondiaux.
LEL is the British equivalent of Paris-Brest-Paris and the flagship event of Audax UK. It is held every four years.
The first LEL was in 1989, when there were 29 starters and 26 finishers, all British.
In 2009 the number of starters was limited to 620. 412 riders succeeded. Manfred got start number 328 and finished the 1400 km ride in 109:05 hours.

The list of the lucky finishers you find here: https://manfred-tinebor.fotki.com/journals/lel2009/entry/fqbfwskgkrg/

LEL2013 - Southbound ride
London-Edinburgh-London (LEL) is a randonnée bicycle ride of approximately 1400km held in the UK on an out-and-back course between the capital cities of England (London) and Scotland (Edinburgh). LEL is the British equivalent of Paris-Brest-Paris and the flagship event of Audax UK. It is held every four years.
The first LEL was in 1989, when there were 29 starters and 26 finishers, all British. In 2013 the number of starters was limited to 1000.
Manfred got rider number P56. During LEL you could check Manfred's progress online.

This Album shows photos of Manfred's southbound ride from Edinburgh back to London passing the control stations Traquair - Eskdalemuir - Brampton - Barnard Castle - Thirsk - Pocklington - Market Rasen - Kirkton - St Ives - Great Easton - Loughton. Manfred reached the final point happily without accident or mishap. However, for getting a medal Manfred's total time was not short enough. Manfred enjoyed the wonderful scenery a little bit too long! :-)

Schloss Wewelsburg

• Wewelsburg is a hill fort with a triangular layout in North Rhine-Westphalia near Paderborn. There on a hill was already a fort in the 11th century. In the 16th century, the Bishop of Paderborn let build the present castle in style of Weser Renaissance. From 1934 to 1945, the castle was occupied by the SS and partly redesigned. The outside plaster was beaten off, so that the castle got a formidable strengthened appearance.
Today the castle is used as museum and youth hostel.
