Wasserschloss Hehlen

• The moated castle Hehlen in the district Holzminden is located directly on the Weser cycle path. It is considered to be one of the earliest castles in the Weser Renaissance style. The castle was completed in 1584 as a three-story building made of crushed limestone. The square four-wing complex with a closed inner courtyard originally had a plastered facade. Today, the outer surfaces appear as unplastered quarry stone masonry. The castle has four towers. On the outside of the castle there are two round towers with a Welsh roof hood in the south-east and north-west corners. Inside the castle courtyard there are two polygonal stair towers at the same corners. The castle is surrounded by a moat. A bridge over the moat in the south-west allows access to the inner courtyard of the palace. Hehlen castle is privately owned.
