M5-Couch

Sometimes Manfred would like to rest on a couch and lay his legs high.
Therefore, Santa Claus had brought a parcel from the Dutch carbon ligfietsen producer M5. In the parcel was a frame rack, with which Manfred built a couch :-)
In the meantime Manfred pedaled some thousands kilometres recumbently. His experiences in riding the couch you find here: https://manfred-tinebor.fotki.com/journals/couch-surfing/
To get a little impression of riding the couch speedy, please watch the video recorded on a country road in Lower Saxony between Polle and Bad Pyrmont: https://manfred-tinebor.fotki.com/journals/manfreds-videos/entry/wqtfrbtwwtqqq/

    View inside Manfred's head.
What is missing is the wings. From the back they will no longer grow.

      Moin, moin Joachim,
hast du deiner ostfriesischen Landmaschine immer noch keinen Lack gegönnt??! :-D

Übrigens: Dein Winterhinterbau ist eine Superlösung! Die solltest du zum Patent anmelden :-)
          Munter bleiben..

I had looked long for a suitable front brake. I had already thought that I had to do a self-construction with parts of a standard brake.

    Couch for two!
Videoclip with a couchbike is simply remarkable... I never saw such operated couch on wheels:))) ...

      14 years 5 months ago
Yes, the couchbike is really amusing.
I can well imagine, that it is a great fun for two, to cycle with the couch in the nature and to enjoy rest at an idyllic place ;-))

And I imagine such couchbike on our roads (for example, Moscow-Yaroslavl:)))) where practically anywhere there is no reserve strip, and in some places it is necessary to go on sand:))), and around - huge camions and cars:)))...

Dear Hellen, you're absolutely right. With the wide part, I would also not drive on any German street. If you will ride, nevertheless, the bicycle marathon Moscow-Yaroslavl, please use another pedal driven vehicle! :-))
Therefore, my couch is narrow with a single seat. I'm trying to build my couch so, that it will be comfortable but suitable for bike marathons on Russia's roads.

Excellent gift from the GrandFather Frost!!!
Now in the summer You will go by an unusual bicycle, at which pedals above a saddle!!! Yes???
    Manfred - the super-biker and the super-master!!!

      Thanks dear Hellen!
Not super-biker - but old man, who needs comforts!
      :-)

It seems to me, to go by such bicycle will be difficultly enough... but it will be not comfortable...
Your actions are not similar to actions of the old man ... :)))

Dear Hellen, thanks for your comment.
But it is not a joke: The reason for the couch is to increase the comforts!

The old man has a problem with the intervertebral discs of the cervical spine. After riding 600-800 km with a racing bike, the old man always gets a stiff neck. Then he is not able to rise the head and to look ahead. To ride further and to finish the marathon, the old man has to fit the handlebars very highly.
          Look here:

After the long ride it needs some weeks, until the neck of the old man is normal again.
In contrast to the racing bike, the neck position on the couch will be relaxed. To get best comfort, the old man has mounted a neck rest at the couch :-)))

I have understood that it is not a joke ...
It will be interesting to look when such new bicycle will be made by You...
Yes... 600-800 km on a bicycle at great speed and practically without interruption... For me it is reachless ...
Now I rejoice to trips a maximum on 30 km for a day ... and that only at weekend and when weather allows :)))))...

30 km in one day - that are more km per day, than I cycled 12 years ago :-)))
Nowadays I know: Nothing is unreachable!!

                14 years 5 months ago
Yes, it is exact - all reachable if there is a wish, a specific goal and actions... and all it give joie de vivre :)
But now ... :) ... I am rather afraid even of tours with about 50 km a day ... :))))

                      Hello dear Hellen,
I have found a nice training purpose for you!
You must get to become "only" fit for your first marathon until September!
This year Jarolslavl celebrates its 1000-year-old existence. To the celebration a bicycle marathon "Москва-Ярославль 300" will be organized in September.
Isn’t it a good target for you?
                      :-)))

                        Hello, Manfred,
Many thanks for the variant of training found for me!

I have read about marathons (Москва-Ярославль) on the Internet and have understood that it too high training purpose for me now..

I most likely accept a bicycle tourism when I go not on highway (dusty and polluted) and not for the speed and distance (300 km for once - for me it very and very much - I "will lose" knees), and among the nature and in that rate in which I can now.

I not the sportswoman :))), and the usual fan of active recreation and a healthy way of life (at that level of which I am capable and of which I am joyful).

Probably, I will go at bicycle tour where in day pass 20-30-40 km... But even not 100... Also combine bicycle traffic with the excursion program...
Or pedestrian tour... On mountains and woods... And too with excursions...
I have already found something on this theme, but definitively was not defined...

:-)) Today I was on the nearby hill Saalberg. There the snow was 40-60cm deep.
To much snow for the bicycle. The pedals dive completely into the snow!

    Varnishing of the carrier
OOO! It turns out couch is not a joke, Manfred - creator.
Work in full swing. I slightly was late for most important event of the year - "Manfred reinvents the wheel". :-)
Now I am concerned about one thought. In an era of shortages of energy the planet's population will change the car on the couch. I hope that witnesses the birth of this miracle of technology will be a priority position - Manfred provide them in the first place. I discovered another advantage. Can to lie on the couch with a thick heavy book.
Now I will suffer from impatience waiting for completion of work and trial operation. :-)

Hi dear Olga, thanks for the comment.
You should know: I am serious always terribly. Have I already done one day a joke? :-)))
In my job it is my task to develop energy-saving industrial motion controls with new methods and technologies. Naturally I also try to move privately so energy-efficient as possible!

Pay attention to the handlebar of the couch. It is wide enough to insert portable computer in between. Then horizontally on the couch I can read your nice remarks! :-D

As I got into your theme of energy-saving ! But you just ignored my hopes for a brighter future when I can lie on the couch, comment terribly serious Manfred and reading paper books (which I love still). :-(((

Dear Olga, I also love paper books.
But paper books are badly suitable for the couch and they are not trendsetting!!!
          Paper books
          - are not water resistantly and resolve in the rain!
          - exist of wood. Trees must die, because of books!
          A lot of energy costs
          - transporting the wood to the papermills
          - producing the paper,
          - transporting the paper to the printing company,
          - printing the sides,
          - bandaging of the sheets,
          - transporting the book from the printing company to the bookstore.
If one think about, the fun in the reading can leave one! :-))

            :-)
I knew nothing about a rain and dampness.
The wise paper book denies nothing unlike others. Let it will be the greatest ecological harm.
