LEL2013 - Southbound ride

London-Edinburgh-London (LEL) is a randonnée bicycle ride of approximately 1400km held in the UK on an out-and-back course between the capital cities of England (London) and Scotland (Edinburgh). LEL is the British equivalent of Paris-Brest-Paris and the flagship event of Audax UK. It is held every four years.
The first LEL was in 1989, when there were 29 starters and 26 finishers, all British. In 2013 the number of starters was limited to 1000.
Manfred got rider number P56. During LEL you could check Manfred's progress online.

This Album shows photos of Manfred's southbound ride from Edinburgh back to London passing the control stations Traquair - Eskdalemuir - Brampton - Barnard Castle - Thirsk - Pocklington - Market Rasen - Kirkton - St Ives - Great Easton - Loughton. Manfred reached the final point happily without accident or mishap. However, for getting a medal Manfred's total time was not short enough. Manfred enjoyed the wonderful scenery a little bit too long! :-)

      Thanks Gill!
The friendliness of the volunteers has substantially share in keeping LEL as an unforgettable positive event in memory.
      Thank you very much!

        Danke Manfred,

Ich habe das buddhistische Haus gefunden
aber Ihre fotos waren shöner und realistischer,
        für mein Gedächtnis.

PS: We have seen Brian but he was too fast for us.
        Smile to Brian, good talk!

I enjoyed your photos! I passed all of these sites but did not take the time to enjoy the beauty of LEL.
I am glad you were healthy enough to finish. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Manfred.  Bad luck at not making the time limit, but it's doing the ride that counts.  I was riding a black Metabike recumbent and we passed each other several times.  Sorry we never got a chance to chat.  Really great photos! Thanks for sharing them.

      Hi, Metabiker!
Last year, during bicycle race TransRussia my M5 Carbon Highracer was destroyd by a car. This year I wanted to buy a Metabike too, but a Performer frame was faster deliverable.
So I remember the black Metabike at LEL, ...but excuse, I do not remember the rider.
LEL was my first long distance ride after the bad accident. Before LEL start, I thought, that I had to break off the ride somewhere. ...but no! :-)    I was able to ride the whole distance! :-)
      Life is beautiful!
      Thanks for your comment.
