A very lovely scene. I do like the monument and all the fine detailing; but I'd probably have to see this item in person to understand why it is so disliked.

    Luv ya!

Let me try to explain, dear Sweet Caroline :-)
The monument shows Peter the Great standing at the steer of a ship with a map in his hand. The 98 meter high bronze monument is located on a huge granite pillar.
The monument to Peter the Great is definitely the most hated by the people of Moscow.
It is known, Peter the Great disliked Moscow. Peter the Great loved Saint Petersburg. St. Petersburg was his capital city!
So the Moscow people say, the right place for this monument is not Moscow but St. Petersburg. In Moscow it is out of place, it is disproportional and collides with the surroundings.

Thank you, dear Professor Manfred, for answering my question regarding the statue in Moscow. I am enjoying so much the beautiful pictures of Moscow and St. Petersburg; and I also hope I can learn a few historical facts about the two as I go along. What makes it even nicer is learning the facts directly from the country's people rather than from a book. It has more meaning and will stay with me longer. I've always enjoyed geography and history; and if computers had been around when I was going to school, I would have been a far brighter kid. The children in today's world have so much at their fingertips, but chose to throw away such golden opportunities for learning everything. There's no excuse for ignorance in today's world. Thank you, Sweetie.

        Luv ya bunches!

What a magnificent building with all its balconies, alcoves, and elegant detailing. I can't get over how large some of the buildings are in Moscow, not only in height, but the lengths of some of them. Some of the buildings I've seen in the backgrounds of a few of your photos look like they extend for more than a block or two. This one looks like it takes up an entire block. Judging from the architecture, I wondered if this structure was once a private home in its hay day. I can't imagine apartment buildings having this much detail in them.

    Luv ya!

It is so lovely along the canal; and the shoreline looks so neat and clean. The magnificent building in the background looks like a giant wedding cake. I'm glad you were able to take these pictures before the pollution, haze, and high humidity took over the skyline of Moscow. I don't think you would have gotten such lovely, clear pictures of the same area this week. All the photos along the canal are beautiful.

    Luv ya bunches!

Yes dear Sweet Caroline, along the river Moskva it is lovely. At the river you see the beauty side of Moscow :-))
The Kotelnicheskaya Embankment Building is one of seven stalinist skyscrapers. It was completed in 1952 (my birth year)  :-))
The main tower has 32 floors.

A rather strange facade. The top half of the building is quite attractive; but it looks like they ran out of money and bricks in the lower half.

    Luv yua!

Magnificent facade, detailing, etc. One doesn't need to visit a museum to see all the beauty in and around this city.

What beautiful, mammoth doors surrounded by the Archangels. It overwhelms me to think how many hours of precision, etching, carving, molding, etc., went into creating each angel to make a precise fit around the arches of each door. Once again, dearest Manfred, you did a splendid job of capturing all the minute details of these fine works of art.
On sweltering hot days like the world has been experiencing this summer, I couldn't begin to enjoy--or appreciate--the magnificent beauty of the architecture, carvings, and statuary. And yet, I'm sitting in my delightfully cool den enjoying all this beauty--close up. The only things I'm missing are the extreme heat and the maddening crowds of people fighting to see the same beautiful Cathedral.

    Luv ya bunches!

Such a spectacular scene to have at an overpass! And yet, there are thousands of individuals who walk pass this daily who rarely--if ever--notice this wonderful work of art When all lit up at night, this must be a breathtaking sight.

    Luv ya!

The gold onion domes, the magnificent and breathtaking carvings and detailing of the facade--alone--are marvels. Sometimes it's difficult to put into words the overwhelming beauty of such a magnificent structure. As always, you did a fantastic job of capturing all this beauty. It would be difficult to see all the fine detailing with the naked eye.
Thank you, my dearest Manfred, for sharing your photographic talents with all of us.

What a gorgeous Cathedral. It's certainly easy to understand why it would take 10 years to complete such an outstanding and magnificent building. When you look at all the fine detailing and statuary involved, as well as the numerous individuals it took to put the master touches on this extraordinary structure, it's no wonder it required 10 years to completion. You did a fantastic job, dearest Manfred, of capturing this masterpiece.

    Luv ya!

Top of the day to ya, dearest Manfred. . .What a fabulous vew of the Moscow skyline. The wrought-iron railings, lamp post, the amazing onion dome roof tops--are all breathtaking. There's so much beauty and history in this one city alone. I can certainly understand why it would take a number of trips to this one city. Even then, there's probably a number of areas of interests one would miss. I understand Moscow had record-breaking temperatures this week. According to the scientiest, "global warming" is here. Thankfully, we've had a couple days of delightful 70F weather this week; but that isn't going to last much longer. We need rain so badly in this part of Ontario. All our yards are parched; and the flower gardens are struggling to remain alive these days.

    Luv ya bunches!

We don't like this monument. It is considered one of the ugliest in the world.
