Schaumburg

• The Schaumburg is a hilltop castle near the town of Rinteln in the district of Schaumburg/Lower Saxony. The castle stands in a wooded area on the 225 meter high cone-shaped Nesselberg in the Weser Mountains of the Weser Uplands. The castle was probably built in the 11th century. It was first mentioned in a document in 1119. Since then, the castle has been the ancestral seat of the Counts of Schaumburg,
Three of the original four towers of the medieval complex are still standing, including the mighty Georgsturm, which can be climbed today as a lookout tower.
The castle was also often the destination of the year-end brevets in the Weser Uplands.
