Sankt Petersburg

Saint Petersburg (short: SPb, Russian: Санкт-Петербург) is a city of Russia located on the Neva River at the head of the Gulf of Finland on the Baltic Sea. It is informally known as Piter (Пи́тер). SPb is the northernmost city of the world with over one million people. SPb is often described as the most Westeuropean city of Russia.
From 1924 to 1991, in honor of Lenin, the founder of the Soviet Union, the city was called Leningrad (Ленинград).

Such an elegant building. I love the shade of aqua and the gold elements really set it off beautifully. It appears they are in the process of performing maintenance on this wonderful treasure, as well.

The building is a part of the Winter Palace Hermitage. The elegant facade was renovated at rhe right hand side when I shot the photo.

Lara (St. Petersburg) has often spoken of this building in her notes to me. It is even prettier than I had imagined. Whenever you are on one of your photographic adventures, do you ever take photos of the interior of any of the buildings? I downloaded EarthGoogle a week or two ago, and I was able to view some of the interior rooms of a few of the gorgeous buildings. The beauty, elegance, and decor are breathtaking, as well as overwhelming. I could spend a day just absorbing the numerous details which went into making such a room so elegant. In addition to all the gold incorporated into the walls and ceilings, the exquisite mouldings and all the delicate carvings are what set these interiors apart from anything else in the world. Other European cities (Vienna) have similar, elegant interiors, but not to the extent of all those in Russia. You've done an excellent job of capturing so much of the beauty of these two cities. I can understand why you enjoy returning often.
        Luv ya bunches!
