Seit Anfang das 18. Jahrhunderts mahlte eine Windmühle Korn auf dem Saalberg. 1882 brannte die Mühle aus und wurde nicht wieder repariert. 1928 wurde die Ruine zum Aussichtsturm umgebaut. Die Aussichtsplattform auf etwa 330 m ü. NN ist über eine Innentreppe frei zugänglich.

    Yes, I like this construction too. The stump of the historical windmill stands on an about 350 m high hill and is today used as a look-out.

    It's great to finally see one of these magnificent, ancient structures up close. On several occasions, when my darling John-Charles and I rode along the Rhine--by auto or train--it was difficult to make out the various structures so clearly. It truly takes lots of energy, enthusiasm--and oftentimes hard work--to get such outstanding photos. You seem to leave no stone unturned in all your grand captures, dearest Manfred. Thank you for all your untiring efforts and for sharing these fantastic photos with all of us in cyberspace.
